Specialist EFT support for eating disorders.
For when food feels overwhelming and control feels like safety.
I offer compassionate eating disorder recovery support for adults who are struggling, ambivalent about recovery, or unsure what help they might need right now.
I am an Advanced EFT Practitioner specialising in eating disorders, with over 30 years’ experience of working in mental health.
My work combines the emotional depth of EFT with the understanding that comes from decades of supporting people through eating disorder recovery.

Why EFT can be powerful for eating disorders
-
Works with the emotional roots of the eating disorder
-
Helps calm the nervous system
-
Can reduce the intensity of urges or food anxiety
-
Gentle and collaborative
-
Encourages connection with the body
Eating disorders often develop as ways of coping with difficult emotions, experiences or beliefs.
EFT works directly with these emotional patterns, helping the nervous system calm and allowing new responses to emerge.
Many people find that urges, fears or distress reduce more quickly than with talking alone.
You might be feeling…
-
Exhausted by the constant mental noise around food, weight, or control
-
Unsure whether you’re “ready” for recovery — or frightened of what change might mean
-
Ashamed, conflicted, or worried you won’t be understood
-
High-functioning on the outside, but struggling privately
-
Wanting support, but afraid of being pushed too fast
If any of this resonates, this space is for you.
You don’t need to be certain.
You don’t need to have the “right” words.
You just need to be willing to have a gentle conversation.
Who this support is for
I work with adults (18+) who are medically stable and experiencing any form of eating disorder or disordered eating, including:
-
Anorexia
-
Bulimia
-
Binge eating disorder
-
Restrictive eating
-
Purging behaviours
-
Long-standing disordered eating patterns
I also work with those supporting someone with an eating disorder, giving you space to resource yourself so that you are better able to make the right decisions for yourself and the person you are caring for.
This support is particularly helpful if you:
-
Feel stuck or ambivalent about recovery
-
Want a calm, compassionate approach
-
Have tried other support and found it overwhelming
-
Need emotional support to fully contemplate eating disorder recovery
N.B. If you are currently at high medical risk, I will help you think about appropriate next steps and additional support.
How I work
My approach is gentle, trauma-informed, and choice-led.
I don’t push, demand, or rush change.
Instead, we focus on safety, understanding, and emotional support — creating the conditions where change becomes possible.
Sessions will include:
-
Emotional support and space to be heard
-
Understanding the role your eating disorder plays in your life
-
Working with anxiety, fear, control, and self-criticism
-
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) to enable you to be free to be you and to trust that's ok
-
Techniques and methods used within the NICE recommended treatments for eating disorders such as MANTRA and CBT-E
Everything is collaborative. You remain in control of the pace and focus.
What sessions are like
People often worry therapy will feel intense, exposing, or overwhelming.
In reality, sessions are:
-
Calm and supportive
-
Non-judgmental
-
Grounded and steady
-
Focused on what feels manageable for you
You don’t have to talk about anything you’re not ready to explore - but we might use EFT or tapping, a very gentle technique, to find out whether it's possible to become ready.
We work with what’s present, gently and respectfully.
Sessions are offered online, so you can access support from a place that feels safe.

About Me
A compassionate approach to eating disorder support
I’m Tanya Lovett, an Advanced EFT Practitioner and Mental Health Nurse with over 30 years’ experience supporting people with mental health difficulties, principally eating disorders.
I know that eating disorders aren't about food at their roots. They are about control, safety, coping, fear and survival. Many people feel deeply conflicted about change — wanting support while also being afraid of losing something that feels protective.
My work respects that ambivalence and EFT can approach it gently and respectfully.
My professional background
I trained in EFT in 2012 and a couple of years later did the Advanced Practitioner training. I understand how EFT can facilitate painless change and release unhelpful and stuck patterns. Both of these are brilliant for those with an eating disorder and many people are surprised by how effective EFT can feel once they experience it.
I have also worked for 32 years as a mental health nurse, supporting people across a wide range of mental health challenges. You can bring anything to our sessions — even things that feel embarrassing or difficult to say. I will be alongside you in helping you get to a calmer, more fulfilling place in which life is richer.
This combination means I can offer:
-
Professional mental health expertise
-
A calm, grounded presence
-
Gentle therapeutic approaches
-
Respect for your autonomy and readiness
I do not take a one-size-fits-all approach. Each person’s relationship with their eating disorder is unique.
How I work
My approach is:
-
Trauma-informed
-
Non-judgmental
-
Choice-led
-
Gentle and steady
I don’t push for change before you feel ready although I may nudge you if I think you could take the next step. I use EFT as a way to do this respectfully.
I don’t use shame, fear, or pressure.
I focus on creating safety first.
Together, we work to understand what your eating disorder is doing for you, and what you might need instead — at a pace that feels manageable.
What you can expect
People often worry that therapy will be intense, exposing, or overwhelming. Many are concerned about being judged or forced into change. Not many people, yet, have experienced EFT (or tapping) so there may be caution about that.
Actually, sessions are:
-
Calm and supportive
-
Collaborative rather than directive
-
Focused on what feels possible right now
-
Grounded in respect and compassion
-

What is EFT?
EFT, also known as tapping, stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques.
It's sometimes described as emotional acupuncture, but it doesn't involve needles!
Research suggests that it's possible to calm the brain’s threat response through tapping with your fingers on your hand, head and upper body. When this happens, it becomes easier to think more clearly, process emotions, and respond differently to difficult situations. This may sound unlikely - you have to experience it to know what it feels like and if it's for you! However there is now a lot of research indicating its effectiveness. Energy Psychology Research | ACEP
EFT is versatile. It can be used as a self help tool - even 5 or 10 minutes of tapping on your own in the moment can be beneficial. Or it can be the focus of a whole therapeutic session. This means that for someone with an eating disorder it can be used in the moment of a binge or when it feels too difficult to eat, or it can be used with a practitioner to explore and create freedom from the roots, the maintaining experiences and the beliefs connected to the eating disorder.
EFT for eating disorders is increasingly used to help reduce the emotional intensity that drives disordered eating patterns.

Tap Your Trauma Away
My book which can give you a flavour of my work
Childhood trauma and abuse can have an impact long into adulthood. In this book the author tells the stories of four women who address the effects of their childhood experience using EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques or tapping) and Matrix Reimprinting. With a Foreword by Karl Dawson, EFT Founding Master and Creator of Matrix Reimprinting, this book is written for you if you have been through your own trauma in your childhood and are looking for release; and it's for anyone who is intrigued by EFT and Matrix and wants an insider view on a typical EFT/Matrix journey and how the techniques are used to enable people to reduce the intensity of the negative effects of their past.
